Welcome to Mekong River System Science Data Workshop

Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City!  We are very pleased that you are here and we look forward to your participation in our meeting: Mekong River System Science Data Workshop - Science for a Sustainable Mekong River System.  This effort is intended to be the first in a series of meetings designed to advance how science can inform the many decisions involved in sustainable development of the Mekong River.  The conference organizers are Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the U.S. Department of the Interior (USDOI) in collaboration with the University Network for Wetland Research and Training in the Mekong Region (WUN), the International Crane Foundation (ICF), the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI), the US Department of State (USDOS) and the University of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUS).  Should you have any question about your stay in Ho Chi Minh City, or about the meeting itself, please contact any of the staff from WUN, ICF and HCMUS.  These staff will have blue name tags.

Lodging and Meeting Locations

While most of you will be staying at the Equatorial Hotel, the meeting will be held on the HCMUS campus, a short walk away. (provided a map)  Breakfast is included with your hotel registration and lunch will be served on the HCMUS campus.  Please wear your nametags because they will serve as you meal ticket for lunch as well.  Dinner will be provided at various places Monday through Wednesday.  For each dinner, please meet in the lobby at the Equatorial Hotel at the time announced on the agenda (provided at registration) and we will transport you from there.

Registration will occur from 08:00-08:30 on Tuesday morning at the HCMUS campus.  When registering, please confirm your contact information.  We hope to communicate with you about additional meetings in the near future and we plan on sending you the conference report so accurate contact information is important.  Finally, please provide a copy of your abstract when you register if you have not already done so.  We will post new abstracts on the website as soon as possible.

Please give a copy of your presentation to WUN staff in the room where you will give your presentation during the break preceding your talk.  We will upload your file then and introduce you to the AV equipment as well.

Costs for the workshop

The conference organizers have already provided you with information on how we can support your participation.  For any costs that you incur, and that conference organizers have agreed to pay for, please provide a receipt describing your expense.  Reimbursements can be arranged with Ms. Le Bach Mai all day on September 16 and 17.  Please look for Le Bach Mai at the conference registration desk.  Conference organizers are NOT responsible for any incidental costs at your hotel (i.e. room service, mini-bar, laundry or telephone calls).

Conference Products

We will use the materials presented during the workshop to help organize the next meeting and we hope you will continue to be involved in future efforts.  To facilitate this process we will send you a workshop report that compiles everyone’s contributions by December 15, 2014.  We also have a website http://conference.wetlandnetwork.org that will be active not only for this meeting but also for future activities.

Enjoy the workshop and we look forward to sharing information amongst us all.

Sincerely yours,

Conference Organizers – Jeb Barzen (ICF), Duong Van Ni (WUN), Nguyen Hoai Bao (HCMUS), Jim Stefanov (USDOI), Tran Triet (ICF) and Scott Wilson (USDOI)
